Today’s Feast – St. Ignatius of Loyola

imgresIgnatius went through a very long and painful turning to Christ. He had a vision of the Blessed Mother and made a pilgrimage to her shrine at Montserrat. At the age of 43, he and six others vowed to offer themselves to the apostolic service of the pope. Ignatius made the association permanent, and he became the first general of the Society of Jesus. He centered his life on the essential foundations of Christianity – the Trinity, Christ, and the Eucharist. His spirituality is expressed in the Jesuit motto, “ad majorem Dei gloriam” (for the greater glory of God).
Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola:
Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve;
to give, and not to count the cost,
to fight, and not to heed the wounds,
to toil, and not to seek for rest,
to labor, and not to ask for reward,
except that of knowing that we are doing your will.
Amen
St. Ignatius of Loyola, pray for us!
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
